We are again collecting Generation Green 'virtual' leaves to possibly provide our school with new environmentally themed resources. Due to the efforts of pupils and parents last year, we managed to secure two bird boxes with cameras, ladybird houses, butterfly/moth houses, gardening equipment and 6 fruit trees of which we are awaiting delivery.
What is Generation Green?www.generationgreen.co.uk Well, Generation Green is a scheme encouraging schools to think about sustainability in exchange for rewards. Therefore, there are two winners, our school for the opportunity of securing new resources to help improve the learning environment and our planet, as whatever small or large changes we make during this process will have some impact on our environment.
What can we as a school do? Generation Green has provided us as a school with a range of challenges to tackle ranging from turning off unneeded outside lights during the weekend, creating tap/water/monitor/window monitors, to encouraging parents to walk to school. We have also created a manifesto which we will update throughout the year as we achieve targets.
Our Current Manifesto: 1. We pledge to install a container to collect rainwater. 2. We pledge to install a composting area in the school garden. 3. We pledge to plant a tree in the school grounds.
We already have two water butts from our last set of Generation Green rewards but have yet to install them. We have a composting area but we would like to see this used and maintained correctly. We are awaiting the delivery of our trees so that we can plant them.
